The way was a torture. We walked down the rotten road into the city of the damned and saw those who were hanging on crosses along the paths for sacrilegious deeds. Feet and hands nailed to the crosses, their miserable lives had died long ago at the view of the pecking crows that worked on the bodies of the dead with surgical precision. Their eyes followed us as we continued along the path into the city and they whispered to us in a cold, dead voice: Turn back, turn back the city is doomed…
Rüdiger Pechelin – Memoirs, Wurtbad 2001
Once known for the best ale in town, the ruins of the „Gasthaus zum schlafenden Löwen“ are now home to disgusting rats and it is spoken that on a moonless night, the doomed survivors gather here to listen to the voices of the dead.
Started with a base of xps-foam and some wood-sticks and balsa-wood.
Finished three floors with wood-sticks and balsa. Plastered the walls with Vallejo Diorama FX paste this time.
Primed with black. The priming has melted the xps-foam bricks a bit. The look is actually good, as i imagine the warpstone meteor that has crashed into the city has melted the bricks. Next time i will probably cover the bricks though.
After priming with black, painted the wood and wall parts with burnt umber and a mix of little grey and dark green, to make it look older and rotten.
Dry-brushed everything with a light grey.
Painted the walls in an off-white color to make it more „medival“.
Washed the stone work with nuln oil. Later i decided to make the stones more darker, as they were a little to bright. I did this with a mix of skaven-blight and nuln oil.
Added some weathring with a wash of sepia and agrax-earthshade, as well as nuln oil.
Added some more details for the grimdark atmosphere.
This build took me about 2 months. As you see the walls are much better shaped right now with the Vallejo Diorama FX paste. I like the outcome very much, it fits perfect to my planned mortheim table.
