Do you believe in ghosts? – I don’t actually. But this night proved me wrong. The fairy tales of the old world seem to be true. The moon shone bluishly bright in the night sky and the loud hissing of the lizards woke us from our sleep again.
I couldn’t believe my eyes. In the dense jungle, I saw the silhouettes of huge white, almost transparent lizards. The weapons glowed in bright colors in the light of the moon. I couldn’t tell whether I was dreaming or whether the ghostly shapes of these lizards were really crossing our path. Their eyes red, their skin bright white, the creatures stomped past us.
I once saw such creatures in Hans Keuscher’s „monstrum extraordinarium libri“ in the library of Altdorf.
He described the creatures as „absurdus creatura alba“, but in his book they were small lizards, which we had previously assumed to be the largest lizards in our world, and not 4-meter-high two-legged monsters with huge clubs!
It will be difficult to prove the existence of the creatures to our king. Our draftsman Rodrigo was unfortunately eaten in the first few days and my skills are not sufficient to draw the creatures true to life.
We are still lucky that the lizards are friendly to us in a certain way, even if they „use us as a snack“ from time to time. The upcoming battle seems to be very important to them. Perhaps it is also some kind of ritual?
