Deep in the forests of Sylvania, the empire once built Castle Waldstein. Magnificent and mighty, it towered above the forest to protect the land from orcs and goblins and other evil creatures. You could see the watchtowers from afar and were assured that you had left the worst behind you.
But the peace was soon shattered. People disappeared from the villages without a trace, never to be seen again. The old people used to tell the children spooky stories by the bonfire and no longer were able to separate truth from deception. It is said that on the first night of the Nachhexen, also known as the witches‘ night, the decaying creature comes out of the dark caves of the forest and cut off the fingers and eyes of the first-born. What remains are the empty shells of the victims, who, if not properly buried, soon awaken again with hoof-like feet and hands to follow the corrupter into his caves.
Soon the villages around the castle fell silent, the forest became dark and inaccessible, a place full of legends and myths. The castle decayed and became part of the grim and dark forest. Strange mushrooms grew and diseases spread among the people. This is how it got the name Faulburg and since then the citizens of the nearby towns have avoided the forest, because if you enter, you will end up as the meal of the Harbinger of Decay.
